6th grade math games
A food truck that sells by the fraction, moons that only drop once you solve them and a story adventure set to your grade. These games practice the big ideas of sixth grade math: ratios, fractions, negative numbers and the first real equations.

What kids learn in 6th grade math
Sixth grade is the bridge from arithmetic to algebra. Kids learn to think in ratios and rates, like 3 cups of flour for every 2 eggs, or miles per hour. They finish the work on fractions by dividing them, and connect fractions, decimals and percents.
Negative numbers arrive, along with absolute value and the coordinate plane in all four quadrants. Kids write and evaluate expressions with variables, use exponents, solve one-step equations, and find the area of triangles and the volume of boxes. Statistics starts too, with mean, median and the shape of a set of data.
Which game practices what
- Fraction Bakery: the Food Truck chapter is sixth grade. Orders ask for a fraction of a batch (2/3 of 24 dumplings), multiplying fractions on a sheet pan pizza, dividing with fractions (how many 3/4 cup scoops fill 6 cups), fractions as decimals, percents, recipe ratios and unit rates, each with a picture that shows the math.
- Moon Math: pick a topic and solve each moon to drop it: exponents like 2⁴, square roots, one-step equations like 3x = 24, integers and absolute value, percents of a number and order of operations.
- Numeria: set the math level to grades 5 and 6 for decimals, fractions, percents and ratios in every creature standoff, shop and garden task.
- Puzzle Pines: balance scale puzzles build the idea behind equations: both sides must stay equal, and one thing can stand in for another.
How the games help
Every problem comes with a way to see it: a double number line for ratios, jumps on a line for dividing fractions, a percent bar, a hundred grid. A miss shows more of the picture and names the usual mix-up, and kinds of problems your child misses come back sooner. Kids type answers on a number pad with fraction, decimal and minus keys, and in Numeria a Hear it button reads any question aloud.
Tips for grown-ups
- Find the unit price. At the store, ask which size is the better deal per ounce.
- Scale a recipe. Making 1.5 batches is ratios and fractions together.
- Talk about below zero. Temperatures, bank balances and elevation are all negative numbers.
- Ask for the reason. Why is dividing by 1/2 the same as doubling? Explaining it is where the learning happens.

Questions
What math do kids learn in 6th grade?
Ratios and unit rates, dividing fractions, percents, negative numbers and the coordinate plane, expressions with variables and exponents, one-step equations, area and volume, and beginning statistics.
Is there a 6th grade game for dividing fractions?
Yes. The Food Truck chapter of Fraction Bakery asks questions like how many 3/4 cup scoops fill 6 cups, and shows the answer as jumps on a number line.
Will my 11 or 12 year old find these too young?
Moon Math is a merge puzzle made for ages 11 to 14, and Fraction Bakery's older chapters have a calmer city look made for older kids.
Are these 6th grade math games safe?
Yes. No ads, no accounts, no chat, no purchases and no tracking. Progress is saved only on your device.
Do they work on a Chromebook?
Yes. They run in any modern browser on Chromebooks, tablets, phones and computers.
