Which two player game should you play?
- Something sporty. Lamplight Pool is 8-ball and 9-ball on a table that plays like a real one. Marigold Mini Golf is 3D mini golf for 2 to 4 on one device, or two online.
- A quick classic. Damson Drop is four in a row, Primrose Paddocks is dots and boxes (2 to 4 players on one device), and Samphire Salvo is the pencil and paper sea battle.
- A thinking game. Kingsway Chess and Crown Jump Checkers for chess and checkers, Rosehip Reversi for disc flipping, and Mulberry Mancala for sowing seeds round a board.
- A bit of luck. Bracken Backgammon with a doubling cube, push your luck dice in Foxglove Farkle, or the five dice scorecard game Pipfold.
- Cards. Cribbage Cabin online or side by side, and race games like Updraft Duel and Spite Street on one screen. See card games for two for more.
How playing online works
- Open the game and tap Play a friend.
- One of you hosts a game and gets a short room code.
- Send the code (or the share link). The other person types it in on their own phone, tablet or computer.
- You're at the same table. Nobody needs an account.
Online games are just between the two of you. Want to practice first? Most of these games also have house players, from a gentle beginner up to a strong expert.
How pass and play works
Pass and play means two people share one device and take turns. It's how we play at the kitchen table: one phone or tablet in the middle, handed back and forth. Every game on this page has it, and it needs no account.
Tips for a good game night
- Mix fast and slow. Start with a few rounds of four in a row or dots and boxes, then settle into backgammon or chess.
- Even it out. If one of you is much stronger, let the newer player pick the game, or warm up against an easy house player first.
- Use a tablet for the board games. A bigger screen makes pass and play easier to share.
