What is Veggie Slash?

Veggie Slash is a swipe slicing arcade game. Veggies get tossed up from the garden, and your finger (or mouse) is the blade. Slice them before they drop back down, string several cuts together for combo points, and watch out for bees mixed in with the vegetables.

There are eight veggies to slice: tomato, carrot, eggplant, broccoli, corn, pepper, radish and cabbage. Every so often a big Golden Pumpkin shows up, and that's where the real points are. It's free and plays in your browser on phone, tablet or computer.

How to play

Controls on phone and computer

On a touch screen, put your finger down and swipe through the veggies. With a mouse, hold the button and drag. Your blade only cuts while it's moving quickly, so a slow drag won't slice anything. Esc or P pauses and M mutes.

Play: the classic garden

You have three lives. You lose one if a veggie falls back down without being sliced, and you lose one if you slice a bee. Bees join in after the first few seconds and get more common the longer you last. Lose all three lives and the harvest is over.

Daily Harvest

A 60 second timed round, the same for everyone that day. There are no lives. Missed veggies cost nothing, but slicing a bee takes 10 points off your score. The Golden Pumpkin shows up twice, at about 18 seconds and 40 seconds. It resets at midnight UTC and you can replay it. Playing on back to back days builds a streak.

Combos

A combo is every veggie you cut in one continuous swipe, from the moment your finger goes down to when you lift it. Slice three or more and you get a bonus: a 5 slice combo is worth 5 for the slices plus 5 bonus.

The Golden Pumpkin and Frenzy

When the Golden Pumpkin flies up, slice it. The first hit freezes it in the air and slows time for a couple of seconds. Every hit is worth 2 points. Land 10 hits before it falls and it bursts into a Frenzy: six seconds of double points while veggies stream in from both sides of the screen. Veggies you miss during a frenzy don't cost a life. In the classic game the first pumpkin arrives around half a minute in, then roughly every 40 to 55 seconds after that.

Blades and the Harvest Basket

Your score from each run is added to your seeds, and seeds buy new blades. Blades change the look of your swipe trail.

The Harvest Basket counts every veggie you've ever sliced. Slice 25, 100 and 400 of each kind to earn bronze, silver and gold medals for it.

Tips for higher scores

  • Keep your finger down. The whole time your finger stays on the screen counts as one swipe, so one long looping stroke through a cluster is a single big combo. Lift only when you're done.
  • Slow down near bees. The blade only cuts when it moves fast. If a bee is in the way, ease off the speed as you pass it, then whip through the next veggie. This one trick saves a lot of lives.
  • Wait for the peak. Veggies hang near the top of their arc for a moment, and that's when they bunch together. Slice there and your combos get bigger.
  • Treat the pumpkin like a drum. Once it's frozen, scrub back and forth across it in short fast strokes. Ten hits in the slow motion window is very doable if you don't wander off it.
  • In a frenzy, sweep wide. Veggies come from both sides at once. Long side to side strokes across the middle of the screen catch the most, and everything counts double.
  • Don't chase every single veggie in the classic game. A missed veggie costs a life, but so does a bee. If grabbing a stray carrot means cutting through a bee, it's the same price. Pick the safer line.
  • Play the Daily Harvest greedy. Missed veggies are free there and a bee is only minus 10, so you can swipe much more aggressively than in the classic garden.
  • For the Thunder blade, go for a 6 combo during a frenzy, when the screen is full of veggies.
