Design homes for animal friends
Which builder are you? You can do every kind of job in time. This picks where you start.
Acre Architects turns area and perimeter into a building job. Animal clients ask for homes, like a pen with an area of 24 and the shortest fence. Your child drags out rectangles on a square grid, checks the tiles inside and the fence around, and every finished design moves into a little park full of animals that keeps growing on your device.
Tap Start building and pick a crew: New Builder for ages 8 and 9, or Master Builder for ages 10 and 11, which starts with side lengths. A day of building is five short jobs, one of them a visitor graph. Dot the beaver, the site boss, gives tips along the way.
Read the request, then drag across the grid to build. The plus and minus buttons fix the width and the length, and arrow keys work on a keyboard. Early jobs show live counters for the area and the fence. Later jobs rest the counters, so your child works out the area from the side lengths, types it on the number pad, or finds a missing side.
When a build is not right, Dot shows why: the rows are counted one by one, the fence is walked side by side with a running sum, or an L is split into its two rectangles. Then your child fixes it straight away. A second miss shows a dashed guide or the full working, so nobody gets stuck.

Ages 8 to 11, about Grades 3 and 4. New Builders start by counting tiles and fence pieces. Master Builders start with side lengths, and harder jobs like missing sides and L shapes open as they go.
Only at the start. Live counters show on early jobs, then they rest, so your child has to multiply the sides, add the fence or split the shape and type the answer.
