Spelling patterns for ages 7 to 10
Hazel the mouse runs a little candle shop at the edge of a sleepy village. Your child hears a word, then builds it from wax blocks that hold whole spelling patterns, like ai, igh, a_e and tch. Every right word is poured into a candle with the word on it, and the candles light the village one window at a time.
Spellwick Workshop has 277 everyday words we picked for kids, each with its own short sentence. They are sorted into 12 streets, one for each family of spelling patterns:
We left out words that sound just like another common word, like tail and tale or road and rode, so a child is never marked wrong for a spelling that fits the sound.
Tap Make candles , pick a street in the village, and a round of five words begins. The device reads each word, then a sentence that uses it, then the word again, just like a spelling test at school. The Word and Sentence buttons read them again as often as your child likes. The sentence is also shown with a gap where the word goes.

Ages 7 to 10, about Grades 2 to 4. Younger players start by picking the right pattern for one sound, and older players build or type whole words.
No. The word is read aloud with a sentence, like a spelling test. On a device that can't read aloud, the sentence is shown with a gap and a Peek button shows the word for a moment before it hides again.
